HOW TO ATTEND A PARTY
In the United States people are interested in dinner parties so much. If you were invited to a dinner party, here are some useful tips that help you feel more comfortable as a guest.
The very first issue that you need to remember is what to wear. Women usually wear formal dress and men wear a suit for a formal party. Therefore according to the type of party that you are attending, you should choose the appropriate clothes.
As a guess, you can take food or dessert to the party but before that, you’d better ask the host if you can bring any food; then if they did not accept, you can take wine or dessert as a gift.
You don’t have to arrive early or on time; it’s the custom to attend the party fifteen or twenty minutes later than the reported time. While greeting, you can thank the host for having you or you can compliment them on their house or their clothes. Then you can join other guests and make conversations with them. It’s a good idea to shake hands with the people you meet o remember to hold the glass with the opposite hand.
The host usually offers you a seat at the dinner time, so it’s polite to sit there and try to taste any food that you are offered. Remember to keep your elbows on the table and if there was a new food that you had no idea about what utensil to use, you can copy others or simply ask about it.
When the party is over, it’s polite to thank the host and say how you felt about the party. If you took any food or wine, it wouldn’t be polite to take them back. The next day or when you meet the host after the party, you should express your gratitude for their hospitality and the party that they had organized.
